BEACONS OF LIGHT
Come learn about great souls God used to bring light to the earth during the Renaissance, Reformation, and the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Learn about the revelations of Joan of Arc that helped free France, the great scientific discoveries of Galileo and Newton that transformed the way we saw our universe, how the invention of the printing press revolutionized the world, and the bold assertions of Martin Luther that fueled the Reformation. We will also learn about the Great Apostasy, knights, castles, stories in stained glass windows, and the contributions and discoveries of Shakespeare, Michelangelo, Mozart, Leonardo da Vinci, William Tyndale, the French Huguenots, and Joseph Smith.
“Our aim of education is to give a full life. We owe it to them to initiate an immense number of interests.” –Charlotte Mason
"Spread the Feast"
Charlotte Mason, a great English educator, advocated that we need to "spread the feast" or introduce our students to a variety of subjects to inspire a wide range of interests and to help each person live life more fully. In the Miracle of America class, we not only teach history, but also memorize scriptures and poems, study great composers and classical music, teach handicrafts, handwriting, geography, folk songs and folk dances. It is a compreshensive class full of variety and joy!
We also use principles of leadership education with discussions, brief student presentations, historical simulations, and inspiring the youth that they have a great life mission. From Well-Educated Heart, our primarily teaching method is captivating stories.
Nature Journaling with John M. Laws
Learning the principles from John Muir Laws’ nature journalling series, the students will be instructed in how to more closely observe, measure, identify, and ask questions about nature building skills as a scientist, naturalist, and artist.
Music and Composer Appreciation
We will learn about the life of different composers and study two songs in depth with each composer. We will also highlight and tell stories of the composer's spiritual nature and share stories of them receiving inspiration from heaven to compose.
Handicrafts: Skill and Creativity
Handicrafts bring joy, confidence and a sence of accomplishment as the students create their own projects. We rotate between 2-4 handicrafts each year such a looming, crocheting, wood carving, leather work, beadwork, and water coloring.
