Heroic Youth and Science for Maidens

Heroic Youth: Crowned with Virtue

In this leadership class, the girls will get to learn in their own way--hands on, engaging lessons and activities, more feminine handicrafts such as cross stitch and hand sewing, all in conjunction with and alongside delving into the lives of great women and their contributions to society.

Students will:

•       be inspired to center their lives on true and enduring principles

•       read biographies about admirable women to learn about their contributions and the character traits

•      have hands-on, engaging lessons to help them more fully internalize and understand the principles being taught

•      learn handiwork such as cross stitching, hand sewing, and basic crocheting and learn survival skills (knot tying, compass, camping skills, etc.)

•      have P.E. games during lunch twice/month

•      participate in simple, but meaningful, service projects once/month (including making toys to send to Africa!)

"In my opinion, the highest, noblest purpose in all our education from the grades to the university is to teach citizenship and noble character…" David O. McKay

Biology

In the science class, students will:

·      explore a variety of biology topics which may include animals, food chains, habitats, plant life cycle, the human body, ecology, cells, and genetics all from a Christian perspective

·      explore topics through hands-on experiments and activities

·     be challenged to think and reason to discover scientific principles during the experiments and lessons

·       read story-like science readings to help make science come alive

·       learn about some of the great scientists and how their profound faith underpinned their scientific discoveries.
