ENGINEERING:

LIVING IN SPACE

The Engineering: Living in Space class will be taught by the Douglas Space and Science Foundation. Students will gain a foundational understanding of the engineering design process, as well as science concepts that feed into aerospace engineering principles. Students will be able to answer the question, “What is Engineering?” within a variety of fields of study that are essential to space exploration. Students will work in small and large groups to use the design process to solve real-world (and out of this world), classroom-scale problems. This is a conceptual class. It does not require advanced math or science knowledge.

"All things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth..., and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator." Alma 30:44

Douglas Space and

Science Foundtion

The Douglas Space and Science Center does an exceptional job providing authentic learning experiences for the students. They do this through hands-on activities, group work, projects, and presenting real-life problems for the students to solve.

Engineering

Students will be introduced to aerospace engineering concepts. They will be able to answer the questions, “What is engineering?” within a variety of fields of study that are essential to space exploration.

Hands-On Learning

This class has an emphasis on hands-on learning where students will design and build projects. They will work in small and large groups which will help them build teamwork, communicate and gain a sense of belonging.

Capstone Project

The second semester will have a heavy emphasis on the capstone project, “Artemis: Return to the Moon,” where students will use what they’ve learned all year to research, design, and build a prototype for a lunar base.

  • If you enroll in the Living in Space class, you are also enrolling for the devotional and leadership class.

  • Science class reimubursable with OpenEd (MyTechHigh) or Harmony funds. See below.

*The Douglas Space and Science Foundation is not affiliated with any religion and will not necessarily teach the class from a religious point of view. We, however, will discuss the topics the students are learning during the devotional time and tie it back to God's hand in creation. We will also be assigning biographies and living science books to be read at home which show a strong connection between God and science.

^Since the Douglas Space Center is not affiliated with any religion, we can reimburse JUST that class with OpenEd (MyTechHigh) or Harmony funds. Please let us know and we'd be happy to write you a separate receipt for the science portion of the class for $65/month.

FULL REIMBURSEMENT for Thursday class with Utah Fits All or Children First Education Fund.
