Entrepreneurship &
Botany & Zoology
Entrepreneurship:
Picture your child at their own market stand, confidently selling vegetables they've grown and products they've created—not just as a fun activity, but as young entrepreneurs who understand that liberty depends on creating, building and producing with their own hands.
Some in-class activities may include milking a goat, making soap, canning, learning about chickens and rabbits as they hold them, and more!
In this LEMI Scholar Project, students:
· discover that freedom and prosperity grow from soil, sweat, and stewardship
· participate in a marketplace, bringing goods they’ve produced and learn pricing, presentation, customer interaction, and the joy of hard work
· research and present on agricultural innovators and entrepreneurs who built prosperity, and contributed to society
· contribute to a Harvest Research Dinner where students research the origins of every ingredient in a dish they prepare
· read books about and discuss the 7 core Georgic principles: providence, mission, ownership, self-validation, stewardship, interdependence, and entrepreneurship
· plan, plant, and nurture their own gardens or raise livestock or bees, experiencing the connection between labor and reward
· write mini-papers twice a month to help students clarify and deepen their thoughts

In the farm science class, students will study:
· botony with an emphasis on plants and trees on a farm, cycles of agriculture, orchard and garden care, plant anatomy, nature pest control, herbs for healing and food, and food perservation
· zoology with an emphasis on farm animals: use and care of, diet, growth and anatomy (goats, chickens, bunnies) with hands on practice (the teacher will bring in her farm animals!)
Some hands on activities may include:
· soil testing with different fertilizers
· dissecting fruit blossoms, seeds and fruit to see plant life cycles
· look through microscopes to discover parasites in goat fecal matter
· compare sourdough to yeast
· measure the pH of fruit and veggies to learn how to preserve them
· Read story-like science readings to help make science come alive. Students will learn about some of the great scientists and how their profound faith underpinned their scientific discoveries.

Leadership and Science
Power of Stories
Science will come alive as students read engaging, story-like science books. They will also read inspiring biographies about agricultural innovators and entrepreneurs.

Hands-On Learning
Experiments will be a regular part of the science class. Group work and activities will also be incorporated into the Georgics class to engage the students and deepen their learning.

Leadership Education
In the Georgics Scholar Project, students will develop leadership skills such as working hard, researching, presenting, and expressing thoughts in discussions and writing.
